Try our cataract simulator

What does the world look like when you have cataracts?

Cataracts are caused by a build-up of protein that clouds the eye’s lens, which can lead to blurred vision and eventual blindness. Cataracts cause blindness for more than 12 million people worldwide. Everyone experiences this sight loss differently, but to give you an idea of what it’s like, we’ve created the cataract simulator below.

How to use the cataract simulator

Enter an address, location or postcode in the box below and click Go. You’ll be taken to your location and shown a vision simulation of what it would look like if you had cataracts. Use the left and right buttons on your keyboard, or the buttons on the side of the map, to rotate the screen and see more of the cataract simulator.

Help restore a person’s sight

I would like to make a
one-off
donation:

Could screen 11 people for a range of eye conditions.

Could provide an adult with a sight-restoring cataract surgery.

Could restore sight to a child blinded by cataracts.
